Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has emerged as a prominent figure in Pakistan, setting his sights on challenging the current government in the forthcoming 2024 elections. During a public gathering on Tuesday (December 19), he launched a scathing attack on the present state of affairs in Pakistan.

Economic Crisis and Political Critique

Sharif directed his criticism towards the economic crisis prevailing in the country, taking aim at the previous Imran Khan-led government and the military. Without naming the military directly, he remarked that neither India nor America bore responsibility for Pakistan’s financial woes; rather, Pakistan itself was to blame for its current predicament.

Bid for Prime Ministership

Expressing his aspiration to become Pakistan’s Prime Minister for the fourth time, the 73-year-old leader engaged in discussions with ticket aspirants of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He recounted being ousted from power three times previously, in 1993, 1999, and 2017.

Allegations Against the Military

Furthermore, Sharif accused the military of manipulating the 2018 elections, resulting in an unfavorable government being imposed on the nation. This, according to him, led to public distress and a downturn in the economic situation.

Criticism of the Judiciary

In a critical tone, Sharif also targeted the country’s judiciary, accusing them of favoring military dictators when they violate the constitution while using their powers to remove elected prime ministers. He questioned the judiciary’s actions, asking why they approved the undermining of parliament and other undemocratic actions.

Nawaz Sharif’s recent public address marks a significant shift in Pakistan’s political landscape, setting the stage for a charged political atmosphere in the run-up to the pivotal 2024 elections.
