In Guwahati, Assam, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah strongly condemned the alleged sexual abuse involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, emphasizing that the BJP stands firm against any disrespect towards women. Prajwal Revanna, a 33-year-old BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, was suspended from the JD(S) earlier in the day due to the reported incident.
Shah addressed the media, expressing the BJP’s unwavering stance on women empowerment, stating that any derogatory actions towards women will not be tolerated by the party. Explicit video clips purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, circulated in Hassan, leading to widespread condemnation.
Responding to accusations from the Congress regarding the NDA partner’s involvement, Shah questioned the lack of action by the Karnataka government, currently led by the Congress, in addressing the issue. He clarified that law and order enforcement falls under the state’s jurisdiction.
In contrast, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav criticized the BJP, alleging that they are protecting the accused and facilitating their escape. He accused the BJP of prioritizing the protection of perpetrators over the safety of women, citing slogans like “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” (Educate Daughters, Save Daughters).
Yadav further interpreted Shah’s remarks about the INDIA bloc’s potential victory leading to a leadership scramble as an acknowledgment of the BJP’s impending defeat in the elections. He predicted a humiliating defeat for the BJP in the upcoming phases of the Lok Sabha polls.
