Amidst the labyrinth of legal entanglements, former Karnataka luminary H D Revanna and his progeny, Prajwal Revanna, find themselves ensnared afresh as a plaint lodges, stemming from a youth’s grievance alleging the abduction of his mother. The harrowing accusation contends that Prajwal, purportedly depicted in a distressing video, stands accused of both binding and violating the victim.
The recent turn of events saw the initiation of legal proceedings on Thursday evening, as confirmed by local law enforcement. Revered as a JD(S) MLA representing the Holenarasipura constituency within Hassan district, Revanna stands as scion to the esteemed lineage of former Prime Minister and JD(S) doyen, H D Deve Gowda, and sibling to erstwhile Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
In a separate realm, Prajwal, occupying the parliamentary seat for JD(S) in Hassan, now faces grave allegations of sexual impropriety. The state apparatus has responded by constituting a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT), tasked with unraveling the veracity behind a slew of explicit video evidence implicating the 33-year-old parliamentarian.
Notably, Prajwal contested as the NDA contender for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, the electoral battle taking place on April 26. JD(S) forged an alliance with the NDA in September of the preceding year.
The father-son duo already find themselves embroiled in a prior molestation case, documented at the Holenarasipura police precinct. Echoing the sentiments of the state’s Home Minister, G Parameshwara, another grievance was registered on the preceding Wednesday.
However, the most recent complaint, tendered on the night of Thursday, emanates from a 20-year-old resident of Krishnaraja Nagar in Mysuru district, alleging the forcible removal of his mother by Revanna.
Per the aggrieved individual, his mother had previously been employed at Revanna’s domicile in Holenarasipura, subsequently departing her post three years prior to return to her native abode. The narrative takes a chilling turn as he recounts a recent visitation from Revanna’s confidant, Sathish Babanna, who preemptively warned against divulging any information to potential investigators.
On the fateful evening of April 29, Sathish Babanna arrived once more, imparting ominous tidings of potential incarceration should the mother be apprehended. Allegedly acting upon Revanna’s directives, he then whisked her away on a motorcycle, leaving the son bereft of knowledge regarding her whereabouts.
The distressing saga takes a darker hue as reports surface, purportedly depicting the victim bound and subject to alleged assault by Prajwal, as relayed to the son by concerned acquaintances on May 1.
Expressing grave concern for his mother’s safety, the son implores law enforcement to intervene in locating her. Responding to the plea, the K R Nagar police, under the purview of Mysuru Rural sub-division, filed charges against H D Revanna and Sathish Babanna for the crimes of abduction, unlawful detention, and collusion.
In a defiant riposte to the mounting accusations, Revanna declared on the eve of Wednesday: “I possess the fortitude to confront these machinations. I shall confront this scrutiny with equanimity, unperturbed by the aspersions cast upon me. I harbor no misdeeds, thus stand prepared for any investigation, vowing to contest the allegations through lawful channels.”
