In New Delhi, the Congress made a resolute affirmation on Tuesday, emphasizing that Arunachal Pradesh remains an integral, unambiguous, and indivisible component of India. It urged the Modi administration to issue a robust rebuttal against China’s baseless assertions regarding the state. Despite India’s firm dismissal of Beijing’s claims as absurd and preposterous, China persists in asserting that Arunachal Pradesh has perpetually belonged to its territory.
On Monday, in response to statements by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated China’s stance. He brushed off India’s dismissal of China’s repeated assertions regarding Arunachal Pradesh as nonsensical. Taking to X platform, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable and integral part of India.
Kharge condemned and vehemently opposed any notion of Chinese claims on Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted that this marks the fourth instance in a month where China, from its highest echelons, has made completely farcical and absurd assertions. Kharge pointed out China’s track record of making outlandish claims by renaming places and redrawing territorial maps of other nations, a well-documented practice.
“While setting aside partisan considerations, we stand united in safeguarding India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, it must be emphasized that Chinese aggression stems from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s failure to confront them head-on and exonerating China of any wrongdoing in the Galwan incident on June 19th, 2020, where 20 Indian soldiers laid down their lives for the nation,” Kharge alleged.
Whether it’s the establishment of settlements near the border with Arunachal Pradesh or the abduction of residents living in border areas, the Modi government’s accommodating stance towards China has jeopardized national security in Arunachal, Kharge asserted. “Besides Ladakh, the ‘Modi Ki Chinese Guarantee’ narrative is gaining traction in Arunachal Pradesh,” he added.
“We remain hopeful that the Modi administration will deliver the most robust response to China’s baseless claims. Our objective is to maintain peace and stability along our borders,” the Congress leader concluded.
