In the labyrinth of investigations, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) navigated through various alleys, searching the interconnected domains of suspected overground workers (OGWs) associated with the proscribed faction CPI (Maoist) in Chhattisgarh. This revelation emerged from an official communiqué unveiled on a Friday.
The probing ensued on a Thursday, tethered to a CPI (Maoist)-orchestrated IED ambush targeting a convoy escorting a poll party during the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections of 2023, etched within the annals of the state beleaguered by left-wing extremism.
“Amidst the folds of these searches, several mobile devices and a sum of Rs 2,98,000 in cash found their way into the hands of the investigators, emerging from the domiciles of individuals suspected to be enmeshed in the web of overground workers (OGWs) or supporters aligned with the Mainpur-Nuapada division of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) faction,” articulated the statement emanating from the NIA quarters.
NIA’s diligent teams combed through the landscapes of six suspects residing in the Maoist-infested terrain of Badegobra village, nestled within the precincts of the Manipur police station jurisdiction in Gariyaband district, as an integral segment of the agency’s relentless quest to unravel the intricacies of the case, so it stated.
Within the narrative of events, a head constable from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s (ITBP) ADHOC 615 Battalion bore the brunt of the assault that transpired in November 2023, delineated within the statement. Assuming custodianship of the case in February 2024, the NIA pointed fingers at the doorsteps of CPI (Maoist) cadres as the architects of the aforementioned attack.
