In a significant transition, Sadanand Vasant Date, an IPS officer belonging to the 1990 batch of the Maharashtra cadre, assumed leadership of the National Investigation Agency on Sunday. This responsibility was passed on to him by Dinkar Gupta, who retired from his service.
Prior to his assignment at the NIA, Date held the position of ATS chief in Maharashtra, showcasing his proficiency in law enforcement. His journey in Maharashtra included pivotal roles such as Police Commissioner of Mir Bhayandar Vasai Virar, Joint Commissioner of Law and Order, and Joint Commissioner of the Crime Branch in Mumbai. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to the nation’s security apparatus, serving in key capacities within the Government of India, including two tenures in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as Deputy Inspector General and in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as Inspector General.
Date’s dedication and valor were recognized with the President’s Police Medal for gallantry in 2008, acknowledging his bravery during the dreadful terrorist attacks on Mumbai in November 2008. Furthermore, his meritorious service was honored with the President’s Police Medal in 2007, followed by the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2014, reflecting his consistent commitment to upholding law and order.
