Thane (Maharashtra): An official complaint has been lodged against a medical officer and his spouse, both of whom are stationed at a government hospital, for allegedly accumulating assets beyond what their income should allow, as stated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The individuals in question have been identified as Dr. Vijay Eknath Gavli (57), who is currently employed as a medical officer at the Sub Divisional Hospital in Panvel, and his spouse Varsha (54), who serves as a staff nurse at the Sub-district Hospital in Pen (both located in Raigad district), according to an ACB release. Throughout their tenure in the public sector, the couple has allegedly exploited their positions to amass an undue amount of wealth, the release indicated.
On September 19, 2018, the physician faced allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe. Subsequently, an examination was conducted into the financial dealings of the family for the period from January 2008 to September 2018, revealing that the duo had amassed wealth amounting to Rs 1,52,40,530, which exceeded their verified sources of income. Consequently, legal action was taken against them, the ACB reported.
Following the ACB’s complaint, the couple has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Pen police station, as the agency confirmed.
