Odisha endured searing heat on Monday, as Baripada town in the Mayurbhanj district scorched at 41.4 degrees Celsius.
As per the Bhubaneswar IMD hub, 18 locales across the state saw temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. While Baripada stood as the hottest spot, the locales of Bhubaneswar, Chandbali, and Nuapada all encountered oppressive heat, each hitting 41.2 degrees Celsius, according to meteorological experts.
Additional areas such as Jagatsinghpur, Paralakhemundi, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kendrapara, similarly faced temperatures between 40 and 41 degrees Celsius, the meteorological report indicated.
IMD forecasts suggested that due to persistent northwesterly/westerly dry air and intense solar exposure, daytime temperatures are likely to surpass 40 degrees Celsius in numerous areas over the next four days.
Coastal Odisha’s temperatures are expected to hover around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, whereas the interior regions may experience a range of 39 to 42 degrees Celsius, the report added.
Additionally, nocturnal temperatures may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across several locales in the coming three days. Given the prevailing heatwave circumstances, IMD has released a Yellow Warning for Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Khurda, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Kandhamal districts for April 16.
Sweltering, sticky weather conditions are expected to linger in regions such as Puri, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur throughout the day, the report detailed.
Meanwhile, Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu has instructed district collectors to enact a ban on outdoor labor during the peak hours of 11 am to 3 pm to safeguard against heat-induced risks. Non-adherence to these guidelines will prompt strict punitive measures in alignment with the Disaster Management Act, 2005, he stated.
