In the heart of New Delhi, Prime Minister Naredra Modi offered his respects to the departed freedom advocate, Veer Savarkar, on the anniversary of his demise. Modi emphasized that Savarkar’s impactful contributions serve as a guiding force, urging us to ardently pursue the advancement and prosperity of our nation.
“Paying tributes to Veer Savarkar on his Punya Tithi. India will forever memorialize his courageous essence and steadfast commitment to our nation’s autonomy and unity. His contributions act as a catalyst, urging us to endeavor towards the growth and affluence of our homeland,” conveyed the prime minister in a communication on ‘X’.
Veer Savarkar, born on May 28, 1883, in Nashik, bore the multifaceted identity of a freedom warrior, politician, legal expert, and wordsmith. Notably acknowledged for coining the term ‘Hindutva,’ Savarkar emerged as a prominent figure in the ‘Hindu Mahasabha.’ His involvement in the struggle for independence commenced during his high school years and persisted through his tenure at Fergusson College in Pune.
During his legal studies in the United Kingdom, Savarkar actively engaged with organizations such as India House and the Free India Society. He authored publications advocating revolutionary methodologies for attaining complete Indian autonomy.
One of his works, ‘The Indian War of Independence,’ focusing on the 1857 ‘Sepoy Mutiny’ or the First War of Independence, faced proscription by British colonial authorities.
