In the city of Patna, Nand Kishore Yadav, a prominent figure in the BJP, assumed the role of Speaker in the Bihar Assembly on Thursday. Emphasizing the necessity of collaborative efforts from all members, he conveyed the significance of cooperation to ensure the smooth functioning of the legislative body.

Reflecting on his challenging journey from a ward councilor to the esteemed position of Assembly Speaker, Yadav acknowledged the complexities he encountered. Despite the hurdles, he highlighted the amicable relationships he cultivated with leaders across party lines throughout his 28-year political career. Expressing commitment, he affirmed, “Whatever responsibilities I undertook during my political journey, I executed them to the best of my abilities.”

Yadav underscored his past collaborations with former Chief Ministers Lalu and Rabri Yadav, emphasizing the positive rapport he maintains with leaders within his party. During the day, Tejashwi Yadav, the former deputy CM, paid respects to Yadav, symbolizing a show of unity.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the Speaker in steering the House’s proceedings, Yadav pledged to carry out his duties with discipline. Asserting his amicable ties with leaders from various parties, he appealed for full cooperation. “Let us work collectively to propel the state’s progress forward,” he urged.

Delving into the hardships of his extensive political journey, Yadav recounted enduring tumultuous times, including a stint in jail during the JP movement from 1974 to 1976. He vividly described how authorities confiscated his house, dismantling doors and windows. For a year and a half, his family lived behind cloth curtains due to the absence of essential infrastructure.

Amidst these challenging circumstances, Yadav entered matrimony, with the ceremony taking place in the absence of conventional amenities. His wife, Kiran Devi, has since departed from this world, adding a poignant note to his narrative.

Sharing insights into his political evolution, Yadav traced his beginnings as a councillor of the Patna Municipal Corporation, evolving into a seven-term MLA and deputy mayor of Patna. Noteworthy is his distinction as the youngest BJP state president, serving for an impressive 16 years, with the unique feat of holding the position consecutively for two terms. Additionally, he held leadership roles as Patna district president and Bharatiya Yuva Morcha president.
