In the aftermath of the seasoned and dynamic leader Jyotiraditya Scindia’s departure from the Congress in 2020 to align with the BJP, the venerable political entity might encounter another substantial setback in the lead-up to the impending Lok Sabha elections. Rumors abound, suggesting that the erstwhile Chief Minister and influential party luminary, Kamal Nath, alongside his parliamentary scion Nakul Nath, is poised to embrace the saffron party in the imminent days.

Within political spheres, conjectures regarding Kamal Nath’s potential transition to the BJP intensify as the political landscape undergoes dynamic shifts. Concurrently with the BJP’s ongoing national convention in Delhi, Kamal Nath, according to sources, has opted to forgo the scheduled conference in Chhindwara and the slated meeting in Tamia on the 18th of February, choosing instead to make his way to Bhopal.

If reports hold true, the BJP may witness the inclusion of Kamal Nath, his MP son Nakul Nath, and a contingent comprising ten other Congress MLAs and supporters. This anticipated defection looms large over the Congress, already grappling with a succession of defections.

Esteemed journalist and political analyst Prakash Bhatnagar asserted that it was a foregone conclusion that a leader of Kamal Nath’s eminence would not embark on such a journey solo, especially after his inability to lead the Congress to victory in the 2023 assembly elections. On the 16th of February, BJP state President VD Sharma declared that the doors of the BJP stood ajar for Kamal Nath and his son, welcoming their potential induction into the saffron fold.

Speculation surrounding Kamal Nath and Nakul Nath’s potential allegiance to the BJP has gathered momentum, fueled further by Kamal Nath’s response to Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam’s defection to the BJP. Kamal Nath remarked, “Everyone is independent. No one is tethered to any political party.” With Kamal Nath’s son, Chhindwara MP Nakul Nath, shedding his association with the Congress on his X Bio, the departure of the father-son duo from the Congress and their entry into the BJP appears imminent.
