The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has apprehended a 21-year-old individual for allegedly disseminating sensitive information about the Indian Coast Guard to Pakistani operatives via social media platforms.
The detained, a native of Porbandar engaged in the fishing sector, was captured in the Subhashnagar vicinity on Wednesday. He had been under surveillance for an extended period and was ultimately detained on suspicions of relaying intelligence regarding Coast Guard activities and vessels through WhatsApp and Telegram in exchange for monetary compensation, according to ATS insiders.
Reports indicate that the accused had been in contact with an alleged female agent from Pakistan for the past four months. This agent established rapport, earned his confidence, and persuaded him to divulge information about the Coast Guard’s operations and vessels.
Complying with her requests, the accused transmitted specifics about vessels docked in Porbandar and received Rs 6,000 in return. Subsequently, under the agent’s direction, he commenced communications via a Telegram account provided to him. Investigations revealed that this account was managed from Pakistan.
The Gujarat ATS has officially lodged a case concerning this matter. The accused has been transported from Subhashnagar to Ahmedabad for interrogation. “Questioning is ongoing, and additional details will emerge as the investigation progresses,” stated an ATS official from Gujarat.
