In the precincts of New Delhi, Advocate General Tushar Mehta articulated on Monday before the Supreme Court that the Revenue Service division will abstain from undertaking any measures to retrieve Rs 3,500 crore from the Indian National Congress (INC) until the culmination of the Lok Sabha elections. Mehta emphatically accentuated that the administration will eschew employing any coercive measures to obviate encumbrances for the political faction during the electoral process.

A bench headed by Justice B V Nagarathna was adjudicating upon a petition by the Indian National Congress challenging a claim of Rs 3,500 crore from the Revenue Service department.

Mehta, acting on behalf of the Revenue Service department, delineated that there exists a requisition for approximately Rs 3,500 crore and propounded that the department will abstain from employing coercive measures until the electoral proceedings conclude. Distinguished counsel A M Singhvi, representing the Congress party, opined that the tribunal should officially document Mehta’s assertion.

The apex tribunal acknowledged the Congress party’s plea for an expedited hearing of the application owing to numerous requisitions in March and duly recorded in the decree that at the onset of the proceedings, Mehta affirmed that there is no contention that for multiple dates in March 2024, requisitions have been proffered for approximately Rs 3,500 crore.

The bench underscored that the Revenue Service department does not aspire to precipitate the issue and concurred that no coercive measures shall be undertaken concerning the sum of Rs 3,500 crore, approximately. The apex tribunal has slated the issue for subsequent adjudication in July.
