In New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday emphasized to a group of economic service officers the paramount importance of considering the needs of underprivileged and marginalized communities when making decisions in their professional roles.
Speaking to probationers from the Indian Economic Service’s 2022 and 2023 cohorts, who gathered at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Murmu underscored that economic advancement is a pivotal element of national growth.
“Macro and micro economic indices serve as pivotal metrics of advancement, rendering economists’ input critical for the efficacy and impact of government policies and programs,” she articulated.
Murmu advised the officers that, as India advances towards becoming the globe’s third-largest economy, they will encounter myriad opportunities to refine their expertise and leverage them to the utmost.
She expressed her conviction that they will substantially contribute to the nation’s growth by capitalizing on these opportunities.
The president urged the emerging officers to maintain the welfare of the less fortunate and marginalized in mind when providing policy-related recommendations or making decisions within their professional milieu, as conveyed in a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Murmu highlighted the expectation for economic service officers to deliver prudent counsel regarding economic analysis, the development of progressive initiatives, the fortification of resource allocation mechanisms, and the appraisal of schemes.
“This carries significant weight, as policies hinge on the advisement provided,” she remarked. Murmu noted that data analysis and the implementation of evidence-driven development initiatives have facilitated the government’s acceleration of economic elevation for the populace.
She emphasized the imperative for the nascent IES officers to augment their operational efficacy through innovative concepts, methods, and approaches. Their ingenuity will help unlock new avenues of advancement for the nation in this swiftly transforming era, Murmu affirmed.
The president expressed satisfaction at observing that over 60% of the IES officers from the 2022 and 2023 groups were women. She asserted that the growing representation of women will contribute to realizing India’s goal of inclusive development. Murmu encouraged the female officers to strive for the holistic advancement of women.
