In the realm of political endeavors, Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in the Congress party, concluded the final stretch of his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ within the precincts of Surat district this past Sunday. Subsequently, the esteemed leader embarked on his journey back to the nation’s capital, Delhi.
A multitude of Congress enthusiasts thronged the thoroughfares, extending a warm reception to the yatra that traversed the Wadhwana Reservoir, a venerable water tank commissioned by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad-III in the years 1909-10, nestled near Vadodara. Progressing from Surat through Bardoli, the yatra made a pit stop at Swaraj Ashram, where Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Bollywood luminary and Congress stalwart Raj Babbar, drew a sizable crowd eager to catch a glimpse of the renowned actor.
Swaraj Ashram, with its historical resonance in both the country’s struggle for independence and the annals of Congress, stands as a testament to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s architectural prowess. It served as the epicenter of the Bardoli Satyagraha, a seminal farmers’ movement protesting against augmented taxation imposed by the erstwhile British government. Additionally, Mahatma Gandhi sojourned here for a month during the freedom movement in the years 1936 and 1941.
In a bid to echo the pages of history, Bardoli found a place in the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra. Laden with the blessings of Sardar Patel, Rahul Gandhi has arrived to actively partake in the nation’s pursuit of justice and love, as articulated by Raj Babbar.
Jairam Ramesh, a seasoned Congress leader, shared insights on the yatra via his ‘X’ handle, noting that it traversed the Wadhwana Reservoir near Vadodara in Gujarat on this, the 57th day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra—a significant milestone, marking the yatra’s final day in Gujarat.
Originally slated to journey from Gujarat to Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi’s plans underwent a last-minute alteration, prompting his departure for Delhi from Surat airport last night. His immediate agenda includes participation in the Congress election committee meeting scheduled in Delhi tomorrow, post which the expedition will recommence from Maharashtra.
In a significant engagement on the eve of his departure, Rahul Gandhi engaged with approximately 70 social organizations in Narmada district at Kunwarpara. The assembly comprised farmers, tribals, and activists dedicated to Dalit issues. The public forum in Bharuch witnessed the presence of AAP MLA Chaitra Vasava alongside other participants.
