In a significant advancement in the fight against cross-border narcotics trafficking, authorities have apprehended two smugglers and seized a substantial quantity of heroin valued at millions of rupees in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan late Wednesday, as disclosed by a senior official.
Delving deeper into the incident, Gaurav Yadav, the Superintendent of Police for Sri Ganganagar, revealed that the arrests transpired in the Hindumalkot vicinity of the district during the preceding night. Yadav elucidated that both the police force and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had received intelligence regarding heroin smuggling in the border region. Consequently, a checkpoint was established, and vigilant surveillance was maintained over suspicious individuals in the vicinity. While overseeing the checkpoint on Wednesday night, law enforcement personnel stationed there intercepted two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior. Subsequent to a thorough search of the suspects, a total of 2.370 kilograms of heroin was confiscated from their possession, leading to their prompt apprehension by the authorities, the Superintendent of Police affirmed. The estimated value of the seized heroin is purported to be in the millions of rupees on the global market, he added.
The apprehended smugglers have been identified as Sandeep Singh and Balwinder Singh, both residents of the Hindumalkot police station jurisdiction. Presently, law enforcement officials are interrogating the duo. Moreover, an extensive search operation has been initiated in the vicinity with the aim of potentially uncovering additional illicit narcotics.
This marks the third anti-narcotics operation conducted in the state within the past week. Previously, a cumulative total of 3 kilograms of heroin was seized over the course of two days in the Sameja Kothi police station jurisdiction of the Anupgarh district. On the initial day, two local individuals along with a smuggler from Punjab were apprehended in possession of 3 kilograms of heroin. Subsequently, on the following day, the wife of one of the smugglers was arrested at her residence with an additional 3 kilograms of heroin.
