Revanna Assault Case: SIT’s Vigilance Against Online Exploitation

The Special Inquiry Ensemble (SIE), delving into the contentious case of sexual violation in Hassan involving Prajwal Revanna and H D Revanna, has issued a stern caution against disseminators of lewd recordings via WhatsApp or other social networking platforms, indicating impending legal repercussions.

Several lewd recordings purportedly originating from Hassan have circulated extensively across social media platforms. These continue to propagate via WhatsApp, significantly compromising the dignity and integrity of the aggrieved parties. Thus, the deliberate propagation of such recordings via WhatsApp and analogous platforms constitutes an indictable offense under Sections 69 (A) and 228 (A) 1, 292 IPC of the Information Technology Act, warranting legal recourse, as articulated in a press communiqué by the SIE.

In a bid to furnish legal support to the victims implicated in the case, the SIE has promptly established a helpline. Assurances have been provided that the identities, residences, and other particulars of the victims will be safeguarded. Subsequent to this, several women have reached out with information. Following the cataloging of their identities and residences, the SIE will engage with them to gather insights pertinent to the case.

Revanna’s bail plea today: The bail plea lodged by H D Revanna, the legislative assembly member from Holenarasipur Constituency, through legal representation, is slated for adjudication in the Special Court of People’s Representatives today. Revanna was detained by the SIE on Sunday, with a detention period of four days. The SIE is poised to contest the bail plea, with prospects of Revanna seeking recourse in the High Court in the event of its dismissal.

In the aftermath of the pen drive scandal involving sex videos in Hassan, a complaint was registered against H D Revanna and Prajwal Revanna in Holenarasipur, prompting the government to commission an SIE and launch an inquiry. Subsequent to this, an FIR was lodged against H D Revanna in Mysore on allegations of abduction, while a rape case implicating Prajwal Revanna was registered in Bengaluru. The SIE has already issued lookout and blue corner notices for the apprehension of Prajwal Revanna, who is currently abroad.
