Amidst the precincts of the Delhi High Court, a palpable surge in security measures ensued on Thursday in response to a menacing bomb threat conveyed via email to the authorities. As elucidated by a senior police official, the ominous electronic missive had found its way to the official inbox of the registrar general of the Delhi High Court on the preceding Wednesday.

The missive, dated February 12 and attributed to an individual named Balavant Desai, was unequivocal in its forewarning to the registrar general. It ominously prophesied a detonation slated for Thursday, boldly declaring it to be the most formidable explosion ever to reverberate through the corridors of Delhi. The email’s incendiary message resonated with chilling clarity: “This impending explosion shall reverberate as the most formidable in Delhi. Summon the minister forthwith, for all shall be obliterated,” it starkly declared.

In light of the gravity of the emailed threat, authorities promptly initiated heightened security measures. The aftermath saw the high court authorities dispatching a formal missive to Sanjay Arora, the Commissioner of Delhi Police.

The communication explicitly underscored the high court’s concern, emphasizing that the competent authority had accorded due gravitas to the situation. It beseeched the commissioner to fortify security arrangements in and around the high court complex without delay. Concurrently, the missive implored a comprehensive investigation into the matter, with the expectation of a prompt and thorough report.

President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association and venerable advocate Mohit Mathur underscored the context of a prior bomb blast near the high court premises. He conveyed that, cognizant of the historical risks, authorities were averse to taking any chances, resulting in a discernible fortification of security. Assuring that normalcy prevailed within the court’s precincts, Mathur mentioned the cooperation of bar members.

In an exercise of caution, the verification of identity cards for individuals accessing the complex intensified. Mathur further detailed the deployment of bar association personnel at the entrances, tasked with discerning the bona fide members of the bar.
