In Nashik, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion regarding Congress’s purported intention to earmark 15 percent of the budget for Muslims is deemed imprudent by NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar on Thursday. He emphasized that the distribution of funds based on caste or creed is implausible.
Addressing the media in this locale, Pawar articulated that the national budget pertains to the entire populace, irrespective of any sectarian considerations. Prime Minister Modi, during his recent discourse, accused the Congress of advocating for a 15 percent allocation for Muslims during their previous tenure, vowing to resist any division of funds or reservations contingent upon religious affiliation in employment and education.
Pawar dismissed such assertions as “folly,” asserting that the budgetary apportionment grounded in caste or creed is unfeasible. In response to queries regarding PM Modi’s allegations of “vote jihad,” Pawar expressed skepticism, asserting that Modi’s current rhetoric lacks veracity, eroding public trust.
Pawar reminisced about Modi’s erstwhile focus on agricultural development during his tenure as Gujarat’s chief minister, contrasting it with his present preoccupation with political maneuvering. The octogenarian politician also addressed speculation about the potential merger of several regional parties with the Congress, suggesting that ideological alignment could facilitate such unions. He questioned Modi’s apparent unease with his remarks, highlighting the electoral success of Uddhav Thackeray’s party in the preceding assembly elections.
Critiquing PM Modi’s recent activities in Mumbai, Pawar opined that conducting elaborate roadshows in cities like Mumbai is unwise. He suggested that Modi’s recent visit to predominantly Gujarati areas was indicative of a selective focus on particular communities.
Ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections on May 20, Pawar commented on the prevailing political landscape, noting a palpable desire for change among the populace while refraining from making specific predictions regarding electoral outcomes.
