In a recent assertion, Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of Congress, insinuated that the stability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s position is wavering following the initial three phases of elections. This speculation arises from Modi’s sudden turn to criticize his erstwhile allies, industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, signaling a significant shift in political dynamics.
“The landscape is evolving. Allegiances seem transient! Post the culmination of three electoral phases, the premier has initiated attacks on his erstwhile allies. It’s becoming evident that Modiji’s grasp on power is uncertain. This trend underscores the likely outcome,” Kharge articulated in a Hindi post on X.
The official X handle of Congress also weighed in on Modi’s diatribe, highlighting his increasing frustration post the initial three electoral phases, culminating in a verbal onslaught against Adani and Ambani.
The party noted that Rahul Gandhi had prominently mentioned Adani 103 times and Ambani 30 times since April 3. “The prevailing circumstances are dire, as even the proponent of ‘Our Two, Our Own Two’ is now forsaking his own. The individual who amassed a staggering Rs 8,200 crore in donations for his party, a scandal of such enormity that the Supreme Court deemed it unconstitutional, now shifts blame onto others. It’s worth noting that through his ‘quadruple avenues,’ the Prime Minister allocated contracts and licenses totaling Rs 4 lakh crore to his party, serving his vested interests and hunger for power. The current state of India, where 21 billionaires possess wealth equivalent to that of 70 crore Indians, is a testament to the Prime Minister’s intentions and policies. Clearly, ‘Our Two’ play a pivotal role among these 21,” Congress elaborated in a comprehensive post on X.
“Since January 28, 2023, @INCIndia has incessantly called for the establishment of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the Modani scandal. This demand persists, even amidst the election fervor – on April 23, 2024, and merely five days ago, on May 3, 2024. Since April 3, 2024, Rahul Gandhi has made reference to Adani 103 times and Ambani more than 30 times in his orations. The Modani scandal’s magnitude exceeds Rs 2 lakh crore. A JPC will undoubtedly be convened once the India Alliance assumes power on June 4, 2024. The anticipation of defeat looms large – the Prime Minister is now apprehensive of his own shadow,” the statement affirmed.
Congress’ retort followed the Prime Minister’s remarks during an electoral rally in Telangana, where he questioned the Congress’ silence on the ‘Ambani-Adani’ narrative, previously championed by its scion, and hinted at a possible agreement.
“Ever since the onset of elections, these individuals (Congress) have refrained from vilifying Ambani-Adani. Let the scion declare from the soils of Telangana, how much has been extracted from Ambani-Adani. Have truckloads of currency notes reached the Congress? What pact has been brokered, leading to the abrupt cessation of Ambani-Adani bashing,” he queried.
“Certainly, something is amiss. For five years, (they) vilified Adani-Ambani, and it suddenly ceased. It implies that you’ve received a haul of stolen goods. The nation demands answers,” the Prime Minister concluded.
