Amplifying the pressure on the BJP, the Karnataka administration, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, dispatched a missive to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, beseeching him to nullify the diplomatic credentials of Prajwal Revanna, scion of former PM HD Deve Gowda, amid the swirling scandal of a purported sex tape in Karnataka.
In the dawn of Tuesday, the JD-S took decisive action by suspending Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent parliamentary representative and Lok Sabha hopeful from Hassan, following the establishment of a specialized investigative unit by the Congress-led government in Karnataka to scrutinize the allegations of sexual impropriety against him.
In his correspondence, CM Siddaramaiah implored, “I earnestly implore you to expedite measures through the Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs to promptly annul the diplomatic credentials of Prajwal Revanna and initiate actions utilizing the diplomatic and law enforcement channels of the Government of India as well as international law enforcement bodies to facilitate the expeditious repatriation of the fugitive MP for judicial scrutiny.”
The SIT shall furnish all pertinent particulars and fulfill all legal requisites in this regard, the CM appended. “You must be cognizant of the grave allegations of alleged sexual misconduct by the incumbent Hassan Lok Sabha MP and JD-S aspirant Prajwal Revanna. The accusations levied against Prajwal Revanna are heinous and deplorable, having profoundly unsettled the moral conscience of the nation.
“Our administration convened an SIT on April 28, under the aegis of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and commenced a thorough investigation. The SIT was swiftly assembled upon the revelation of the veritable gravity of the alleged transgressions against numerous women, prompting the aggrieved parties to come forth and lodge a formal complaint against Prajwal Revanna,” the epistle delineated.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister underscored that per available intelligence, sensing the impending specter of arrest, Prajwal Revanna absconded abroad employing his diplomatic credentials on April 27. “Even as the SIT toils incessantly to scrutinize the allegations leveled against Prajwal Revanna, his repatriation to the nation assumes paramount importance to subject him to due process in accordance with the statutory provisions,” the communication emphasized.
