Amidst the fervent political atmosphere in New Delhi, Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, boldly proclaimed that tyranny would falter and her husband’s incarceration by the Enforcement Directorate would be transient. Addressing the crowd gathered at the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally organized by the INDIA bloc, she emphasized the resilience of her husband and questioned the legitimacy of his arrest.
In her debut oration at a political gathering, Sunita stirred the audience by posing a crucial query: Should Arvind Kejriwal step down from his position as Chief Minister? “The BJP clamors for his resignation. But should he acquiesce? Is his detention justified?” she queried. “He is a lion-hearted leader. Their attempts to confine him will be futile,” she declared amidst expressions of gratitude for the support bestowed upon her spouse.
“The shackles of oppression cannot hold sway forever. Arvind is enveloped in the warmth of countless blessings,” she asserted. Arvind Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case pertaining to the defunct Delhi excise policy, and is slated to remain in custody until April 1.
The message conveyed by Kejriwal encompassed six assurances on behalf of the INDIA bloc—uninterrupted electricity supply, provision of free electricity for the underprivileged, bolstering of government schools, establishment of Mohalla Clinics and multi-speciality hospitals, assurance of minimum support price for farmers, and the relentless pursuit of full statehood for Delhi. “For 75 years, the people of Delhi have endured injustice. Their governance has been curtailed. We pledge to grant Delhi full statehood if the INDIA bloc ascends to power.
“Should the INDIA bloc be entrusted with authority, we shall forge a resplendent future for our nation,” Sunita affirmed as she relayed her husband’s words. “Mother India agonizes. Her anguish is palpable when her children are deprived of electricity or perish due to lack of medical care,” she lamented. In a display of solidarity preceding the Lok Sabha elections, leaders of the INDIA bloc congregated at the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally held at the historic Ramlila ground against the backdrop of Kejriwal’s detention.
Prominent figures such as Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress, Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, Sharad Pawar of the NCP, Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena, Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Sitaram Yechury of the CPI(M), D Raja of the CPI, Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, Farooq Abdullah of the NC, and Chief Minister Champai Soren of Jharkhand were amongst the attendees, showcasing a united front against the prevailing political circumstances.
