In Thane, a senior couple and their offspring sustained injuries subsequent to the collapse of the upper level abode’s ceiling upon them within Maharashtra’s Thane municipality, officials disclosed on the eve of Thursday. The occurrence transpired within the confines of a four-tiered edifice shortly preceding the stroke of midnight on Wednesday, as relayed by authorities.
Yasin Tadvi, head of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) under the aegis of the Thane Municipal Corporation, delineated, “An elderly gentleman in his seventies, accompanied by his spouse and progeny, encountered injuries as a consequence of the roof collapse circa 11.55 pm on Wednesday within the precincts of Om Krishna Cooperative Housing Society nestled in Kalwa’s Bhusar ali enclave.”
Asserting the edifice’s vintage to be approximately 35 years, he underscored that the municipal entity had previously categorized it as an unsound, perilous, and untenable structure necessitating evacuation and demolition. Prompted by the alert, squads from the local fire brigade and RDMC promptly mobilized to the locale, instigating a rescue endeavor. Approximately 100 denizens inhabiting 30 units within the structure were evacuated, Tadvi appended.
The wounded parties, identified as Manohar Dandekar (70), his spouse Manisha (65), and their offspring Mayur (40), have been hospitalized for medical care, he relayed, further mentioning the edifice’s subsequent sealing post the incident. The municipal functionaries will deliberate on the ensuing steps concerning the edifice, he concluded.
