In the precincts of Jalpaiguri, ensconced within West Bengal’s embrace, nature unleashed its fury in a tempestuous symphony of thunder and hail. The relentless onslaught claimed the lives of four souls, their vitality extinguished by the cruel descent of mighty arboreal sentinels. Among the fallen, three gallant men and one fair maiden succumbed to the whims of fate. Meanwhile, the tally of the wounded soared to several hundreds, their bodies bearing witness to the ferocity of the elemental maelstrom. Within the hallowed halls of the Jalpaiguri Medical College, a bastion of healing, approximately 65 souls have sought solace from the ravages of the storm.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Varma, esteemed Chairman of the Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital Patient Welfare Association, elucidated that those grievously afflicted, their corporeal vessels marred by the trauma of the elements, were swiftly ushered to the sanctum of Siliguri Medical College following rudimentary intervention.

The tempest, a capricious entity, descended upon the unsuspecting populace with an abruptness that belied its impending savagery. In its wake, trees lay prostrate, their roots torn asunder, while electric sentinels succumbed to the inexorable forces of nature, plunging the district into an abyssal darkness, a precautionary measure undertaken to forestall further calamity.

The district of Jalpaiguri bore the brunt of the tempest’s wrath, its dominion extending far and wide, a testament to the indiscriminate fury of Mother Nature. Amidst the chaos, hailstones danced their macabre ballet, a harbinger of despair. Dwijendra Narayan Sarkar, a venerable soul of 52 winters, met his untimely demise as an arboreal titan laid claim to his mortal frame, his abode on Kalitala Road now a somber testament to the capricious whims of fate. In a valiant effort to extricate him from his arboreal prison, emergency responders toiled tirelessly, yet their efforts proved futile as life ebbed from his mortal coil within the hallowed halls of Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital.

Elsewhere in the precincts of Goshalamor, Anima Roy, a matron of 49 summers, met her demise beneath the boughs of a felled arboreal sentinel, her mortal frame crushed beneath its weight. Yogen Roy, a sage of 70 cycles, and Samar Roy, a patriarch of 64 harvests, joined her in the embrace of eternal slumber, their earthly travails coming to a sorrowful conclusion. Alas, despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, their souls were lost to the unforgiving tempest.

Amidst the pall of grief that enveloped the land, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to the digital realm to express her profound condolences, her words a beacon of solace amidst the tumult. “Sudden tempest and torrential rains have wrought havoc upon the idyllic expanse of Jalpaiguri-Mainaguri,” she lamented, her heart heavy with sorrow. “Homes lie ravaged, trees uprooted, and lives lost in the blink of an eye. Yet, amidst the chaos, the stalwart souls of our District and Block Administration, Police, DAG, and Quick Response Team labor tirelessly to assuage the suffering of the afflicted. I stand in solidarity with the bereaved families, confident that the indomitable spirit of our district administration shall prevail, providing succor to those in need amidst this tempestuous trial.”
