Krishna Kumari Rai, the spouse of Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Executive of Sikkim, tendered her resignation as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Namchi Singhithang, scarcely a day subsequent to her induction into office.
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), led by Chief Minister Tamang, emerged victorious in the recent legislative elections, securing triumph in 31 out of 32 constituencies, along with clinching the solitary Lok Sabha constituency in the region.
In response to his spouse’s relinquishment of office, the Chief Executive remarked that the decision was unanimous within the ranks of the SKM. He expressed, “The resignation of my spouse aligns harmoniously with the collective resolution of our party, which places paramount importance on its welfare and aspirations. It merits mention that she contested the elections at the behest of the parliamentary committee of the SKM, propelled by our party’s best interests.”
Assuring the populace of Namchi-Singithang, the Chief Executive declared, “The SKM remains steadfast in its commitment to offering avenues for the sincere and committed members of our party. I pledge to the constituents of Namchi-Singithang that you shall continue to be represented by an unwavering and genuine MLA dedicated to advancing your concerns.”
In an antecedent declaration, Krishna Kumari Rai expressed, “It is with profound regret that I formally tender my resignation from the Namchi-Singithang constituency. I had not foreseen my foray into the political arena to occur so expeditiously, and to garner such resounding support was beyond my wildest imaginings, for which I remain deeply indebted.”
“My perception of politics has always been as a communal endeavor, and my decision to contest was predicated on honoring the directives of the parliamentary board and the party leadership,” she added.
Rai further emphasized that the successor nominated for the Namchi-Singithang constituency will be an individual of unwavering dedication committed to serving the populace of this electoral division. The Speaker of the legislative Assembly has formally acknowledged Rai’s resignation.
