In the political realm of Patna, Bihar, the impending ascension to the role of Speaker in the Bihar Assembly is poised to be assumed by BJP MLA Nand Kishore Yadav. Reliable sources indicate that the pivotal moment of the nomination process will unfold at the precise hour of 10:30 am on the morrow, Tuesday.
Nand Kishore Yadav, a seasoned BJP luminary, not only boasts his current status as a Member of the Legislative Assembly but also carries the distinguished past of serving as a former Minister in Bihar. The dynamics of the Assembly’s leadership underwent a metamorphosis post the 2020 elections, with Vijay Sinha initially assuming the role of Speaker. However, the landscape shifted again in August 2022 with the formation of the Grand Alliance government, paving the way for RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary to preside as the Speaker.
It is worth noting that Nand Kishore Yadav played a pivotal role in challenging Awadh Bihari Chaudhary’s incumbency through a bold no-confidence motion. Despite his political prowess, Nand Kishore found himself bereft of a ministerial portfolio in the BJP-JD(U) administration.
The political saga of Nand Kishore Yadav traces back to his formative years as a student activist, where his entry into politics transpired. Currently representing the Patna Sahib constituency, Nand Kishore’s political odyssey commenced with his affiliation to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the bygone year of 1969. His active participation during the ‘JP movement’ further solidified his political imprint.
In the annals of 1974, Nand Kishore assumed the mantle of the President of the Patna City Student Struggle Committee, concurrently aligning himself with the JP movement. Aligned with the late socialist luminary Jayaprakash Narayan’s call, he boycotted the final examination of his B.Sc. Following these tumultuous years, he secured a position as a Councillor in the Patna Municipal Corporation in 1978 and subsequently ascended to the role of Patna’s Deputy Mayor in 1982.
His trajectory continued to soar as he secured the position of Patna Metropolitan President in 1983 and later helmed the leadership of the BJP ‘Yuva Morcha’ in Bihar in 1990. Venturing into electoral politics in 1995, he contested the assembly elections in the eastern precincts of Patna and emerged triumphant as an MLA.
Commending the decision, BJP MLA Haribhushan Thakur expressed his approval, stating, “This move by the party is a commendable one. Nand Kishore Yadav, being a seasoned member and former state president of the party, garners our wholehearted support. With him at the helm, we anticipate the smooth functioning of the Legislative Assembly.”
