Amidst a relentless surge in temperatures, the government of Delhi is set to convene an urgent assembly on Thursday to address the pressing issue of water scarcity engulfing the city. The capital grapples with a dire shortage of water exacerbated by the scorching summer heat, with mercury levels peaking at approximately 50 degrees Celsius in various locales.

Scheduled for noon, the assembly will witness the presence of Atishi, the Minister for Water, along with Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Minister for Health, alongside the chief secretary and other eminent officials. Atishi has voiced concerns over the diminished water supply, attributing it to Haryana’s cessation of Delhi’s allocation from the Yamuna River.

In response to the crisis, the municipal administration has levied a fine of Rs 2000 for water wastage and mobilized a contingent of 200 teams to enforce compliance. Additional measures include the deployment of tubewells operating on a double-shift basis and the dispatch of water tankers to deliver essential supplies to affected areas grappling with the scarcity.
