In the heart of New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a Saturday, decreed an ex-gratia disbursement of Rs 2 lakh to the progeny of each of the 24 individuals who met their demise in the calamity that befell Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj on the aforementioned day.
In a digital missive posted on X, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) declared, “An ex-gratia allotment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) shall be bestowed upon the kin of every decedent entangled in the mishap in Kasganj. A sum of Rs 50,000 shall be extended to the wounded.”
A tragic tableau unfolded as a tractor-trolley, ferrying no fewer than 40 passengers, including women and children, plummeted into a pond in the Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh, exacting the lives of 24 souls and inflicting injury upon 10 others. The casualties encompassed 13 women, 10 children, and a solitary gentleman, as per police disclosures.
Per the law enforcement narrative, the unfortunate episode transpired on the Riyazganj-Patiyali Link Road, proximate to Gadhai village, at the precise hour of 9:30 am. The occupants of the ill-fated trolley hailed from Jaithara village in UP’s Etah district, undertaking a pilgrimage to Kadarganj for a sanctifying immersion in the Ganga.
Further revelations by the police posit that en route to Kadarganj, the tractor-trolley, laden with humanity, spiraled out of control, precipitating its descent into the aquatic abyss. The toll from this harrowing incident now stands at 24, embracing 13 women, 10 children, and a solitary male.
Ten individuals sustained injuries, eight of whom are presently under medical care at the district hospital, with the remainder being referred to Aligarh, as per police reports. Anup Pradhan, Minister of State for Revenue in the UP Government, dispatched by the Yogi government to commiserate with the bereaved, articulated the government’s commitment to extending financial succor to the afflicted families.
Expressing sorrow over the calamity, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath proclaimed an ex gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
