The plight of 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel has entered its 13th day, showcasing a relentless rescue effort amidst daunting challenges. Recent developments in the rescue mission have brought both progress and setbacks, with the situation evolving by the hour.
Rescuers have drilled nearly 46.8 meters into the tunnel, striving to pave a path to safety. However, Thursday brought forth a new challenge when cracks surfaced in the platform supporting the drilling machine, halting operations temporarily. Earlier, a six-hour delay ensued as an iron girder obstructed the auger machine’s path, further complicating the rescue timeline.
The drilling process encountered its third halt since the mission began on November 12, following the tunnel collapse along Uttarakhand’s Char Dham route. Officials refrain from setting specific timelines, yet the optimistic outlook suggests a potential breakthrough today if operations proceed unhindered.
Amidst the adversity, the site remains equipped with 41 ambulances and a six-inch wide tube facilitating the delivery of essential supplies and communication with the trapped workers.
