Amidst the scorching summer blaze, Atishi, the Water Minister of Delhi, undertook an examination of the Wazirabad Yamuna Reservoir. She articulated her intent to dispatch correspondence to the central authority regarding the purported obstruction of the national capital’s water allotment by Haryana.
The metropolis of Delhi finds itself in the throes of a water deficit, exacerbated by an unprecedented surge in summer temperatures, with mercury levels cresting at approximately 50 degrees Celsius in select precincts of the urban expanse. Atishi asseverated that the constricted flow of water stems from Haryana’s impeding of Delhi’s portion of the Yamuna River.
“Surveyed the Wazirabad Yamuna Reservoir. It serves as the conduit to Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla water refinement facilities. Ideally, the Yamuna’s water level should stand at 674 ft. Regrettably, it languishes at a mere 670.3 ft. Consequently, various quarters of Delhi are confronting an acute dearth of water,” remarked Atishi, articulating her stance through a Hindi post on X.
She further elucidated, “Today, I shall compose missives to the central governance body. It behooves them to ensure Delhi’s entitlement to water. Haryana’s unwarranted interdiction of Delhi’s water supply is unwarranted and impermissible.”
Officials affirmed that the Delhi administration shall convene an exigent session on Thursday, convened to address the burgeoning water crisis.
