The denizens of Hyderabad bore witness to an extraordinary occurrence dubbed as ‘The Zero Shadow Day’ on Thursday, May 9. The populace found their shadows absent from 12.12 pm to 12.19 pm, encompassing a span of 7 minutes.
This 7-minute celestial phenomenon offers a unique opportunity for the denizens of Hyderabad to partake in this remarkable event.
As per the pronouncements of scholars, this phenomenon is precipitated by the sun’s rays aligning vertically at specific locales on the terrestrial sphere. Officials from the Birla Science Centre expounded in a proclamation that this phenomenon transpired due to objects positioned perpendicular or at a 90-degree angle to the Sun being incapable of casting a shadow for a duration of 2 minutes.
In a recent episode, Bengaluru, the capital city of the neighboring state, Karnataka, underwent this event on April 24, causing a stir among its inhabitants.
Scholars elucidated that the Zero Shadow Day manifests twice annually, once during the sun’s trajectory towards the northern hemisphere, and the second occurrence transpires when the earth progresses towards the southern hemisphere.
