Elevate your festive spirits as the central government, last month, announced a significant increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees. Following suit, various states and union territories have declared a 4% hike in DA just before Diwali. Let’s delve into the decisions made by different regions.
Central Government’s 4% Surge
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Cabinet, in its meeting on October 18th, decided to increase DA by 4%. This decision, effective from July 1, 2023, elevates the existing DA rate to 46%.
Assam’s Wave of Joy Among 500,000 Employees
Echoing the central decision, the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in Assam also raised DA by 4%, benefiting approximately 500,000 government employees and retired personnel. With this, Assam’s overall DA has reached 46%, bringing smiles to Diwali celebrations.
Yogi Government’s Generosity in Uttar Pradesh
The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 4% hike in DA for its employees and pensioners, resulting in a total expenditure of around 2100 crore rupees. The Chief Minister, extending Diwali greetings on his social media account, assured the bonus of 30 days’ equivalent pay, up to a maximum of 6908 rupees, for unregistered, teaching, non-teaching, and daily-wage employees.
Chhattisgarh’s Plea to Election Commission
Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has urged the Election Commission to grant permission to provide DA to state employees at par with the central government. This move comes after Rajasthan’s government sent a proposal to the Election Commission during the legislative assembly elections. The permission granted led to an increase in DA for Rajasthan employees, setting a precedent.
Gifts from Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu
In a gesture of generosity, both the Chandigarh administration and the Tamil Nadu government have announced a 4% hike in DA for their employees. Tamil Nadu’s decision will be effective from July 1st, benefiting up to 16 lakh employees and posing a burden of over 2500 crore rupees on the state exchequer. Let the festive season begin with gratitude and prosperity for government employees across the nation!
