The EICMA 2023 event in Milan, Italy, witnessed KTM’s grand reveal of the highly anticipated 2024 KTM 990 Duke. This performance-oriented naked bike has created quite a buzz in the motorcycle world, and for good reason.

2024 KTM 990 Duke Powertrain

To deliver exceptional power, the 2024 KTM 990 Duke is equipped with an overhauled LC8c engine, borrowed from the KTM 890 Duke R. This engine features new pistons, connecting rods, and a crankshaft. The 947cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine generates an impressive 123PS of power at 9,500rpm and 103Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. It’s paired with a 6-speed gearbox, ensuring a thrilling ride.

In the front, you’ll find four-piston radial-mounted calipers, dual 300mm floating discs, and a 240mm disc at the rear. The 2024 KTM 990 Duke comes with fully adjustable WP Apex upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. The seat height is set at 825mm, providing a comfortable riding position for various riders.

Wheels and Features

The wheels on the 2024 KTM 990 Duke are sourced from the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, with Bridgestone S22 tires (120/70 R17 front and 180/55 R17 rear). The bike is packed with features, including a bi-directional quickshifter, traction control, a vibrant 5-inch TFT display, three ride modes (Rain, Street, and Sport), launch control, cornering headlights, and optional performance and track modes. It also features a USB Type-C port, supermoto ABS, and a slip-and-assist clutch.

Chassis and Design

KTM has paid special attention to the stiffness of the frame. The 2024 KTM 990 Duke is built on an all-new steel tube frame. According to the company, this frame enhances handling and traction, especially at the rear wheel. It incorporates a lattice aluminum triple clamp, a revised swingarm pivot point, and a new gravity die-cast swingarm that saves 1.5 kilograms.

The design of the new 990 Duke is aggressive and in line with KTM’s signature style. It features a split DRL, projector headlamp, sharp and angular fuel tank extension, a slim tail, and a capacious 14.5-liter fuel tank. The streetfighter is available in two colors: Electric Orange and Black. Remarkably, the KTM 990 Duke weighs only 179 kilograms, making it a lightweight powerhouse.

Launch in India

While there is no immediate indication of the KTM 990 Duke’s launch in the Indian market, it is expected to be available in global markets soon.

Facing the Competition

Once the new KTM 990 Duke arrives in India, it will face tough competition from the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja ZH2, Honda CB1000R, Yamaha FJ-09, and Suzuki GSX-S1000, among other sportbike models.

The 2024 KTM 990 Duke is set to make a significant impact in the world of naked bikes. Its powerful engine, advanced features, and lightweight design make it a formidable contender in the market. Stay tuned for updates on its availability and performance as it takes on its competitors.
