In the vicinity of Shyamganj, situated in the heart of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, a commotion unfolded post-namaz this afternoon, marked by sporadic stone pelting targeting local establishments.
The situation escalated dramatically as a group proceeded to vandalize two-wheelers stationed along the roadside and subjected bikers to physical assault. Subsequently, they wreaked havoc on several shops, creating a tumult that sent shockwaves through the local populace. The malefactors intercepted motorcycle riders, coercing them to dismount.
A substantial contingent of law enforcement swiftly descended upon the scene to restore order, resorting, reportedly, to a lathi charge to disband the gathering.
According to reliable sources, the upheaval was orchestrated by adherents of an Islamic clergyman previously apprehended by the police. The detention was in connection with his issuance of a ‘jail bharo’ plea regarding the Gyanvapi case the day prior.
Tensions had been simmering in Shyamganj, Bareilly, since the morning of Friday and reached a crescendo by evening. The district magistrate affirmed an ongoing investigation, assuring that requisite measures would be implemented.
The district administration in Bareilly has issued an appeal for the preservation of peace, imploring citizens to refrain from taking matters into their own hands. They have called upon the public to promptly report any aberrant activities to the nearest police station. A directive has been issued discouraging unnecessary congregations at intersections.
Supplementary law enforcement personnel have been deployed to uphold the state of law and order. Vigilance is being maintained over all major thoroughfares and intersections by the police.
