In Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a 30-year-old individual found himself entangled in a web of deceit, orchestrating the demise of an elderly gentleman to orchestrate his own faux demise, all in a desperate attempt to elude the repayment of a substantial Rs 10 lakh loan. The arrest of this perpetrator, Vikrant Verma, transpired on a Saturday.
The plot unfolded as Verma, with cunning intent, enticed a 60-year-old contractual driver of a CHC named Dwarika Nath Shukla, recognized for his predilection for alcohol and destitute circumstances, offering him an allure of spirits on January 16. Collaborating with two accomplices, Verma perpetrated the murder of Shukla and subsequently immolated the remains, eradicating any discernible trace of identity. Subsequently, he propagated the narrative of his own demise and absconded to Panipat (Haryana) to reunite with his paramour, concealing under the pseudonym “Vikki Kumar,” as disclosed by Sultanpur SP Somen Barma.
The investigative saga commenced when Shukla’s father, Ramesh, filed a homicide complaint, prompting a meticulous police inquiry. The revelation unfolded that Vikrant engaged in clandestine conversations at unconventional hours, the implicated phone number remaining dormant for the rest of the day, as elucidated by SHO Kotwali Dehat, Shyam Sunder.
Following the trail of the enigmatic number, law enforcement ascertained its connection to a woman romantically entwined with Vikrant. Concurrently, it surfaced that Vikrant, grappling with a financial burden of Rs 10 lakh, found himself incapable of meeting the repayment obligations due to setbacks in his avian enterprise. A vigilant police unit surveilled the woman’s residence in Panipat, culminating in Vikrant’s apprehension upon his arrival. In a revealing confrontation, Verma, now living incognito as Vikki Kumar, succumbed to confession.
In the midst of his admission, Verma articulated his downfall, narrating a tale of a failed poultry venture in Delhi. It was in the capital city that he encountered Shaktimaan Kumar and Anuj Sahu, who sowed the seeds of the elaborate ruse to evade the shackles of his financial obligations, as recounted by the SHO.
