Amidst familial discord, a woman named Jhansi met her demise under suspicious circumstances, allegedly pushed from Erach bridge in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh on a fateful Tuesday.
The suspected perpetrator, purportedly her brother-in-law, is currently at large, purportedly having fled with the deceased’s valuable ornaments, while authorities initiate a vigorous pursuit to apprehend him.
The deceased, identified as Poonam, the spouse of Ravindra, was reportedly entangled in a contentious relationship with her in-laws, necessitating her temporary refuge at her parental residence in Laxmanpura village under the jurisdiction of Lahchura police station in Jhansi. Balbir Yadav, the father of the deceased, recounted the events leading to the tragic incident, stating that on the aforementioned Tuesday, Poonam’s brother-in-law, Surendra, arrived to escort her back home, extending apologies on behalf of the family and beseeching forgiveness for past transgressions.
“He departed joyfully with my daughter on their motorcycle. However, not long thereafter, I received a distressing call from Surendra, informing me of Poonam’s fall from the Earch bridge and her grievous injuries, imploring me to hasten to the scene,” recounted Yadav. Hastening to comply, Yadav arrived at the designated spot only to discover Poonam’s lifeless form beneath the bridge.
Expressing suspicion, Yadav accused his son-in-law’s brother of foul play, alleging his complicity in absconding with Poonam’s valuables.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry into Yadav’s accusations and commenced a search for the fugitive Surendra. Yadav divulged that he had celebrated his daughter Poonam’s nuptials to Ravindra Yadav with much fanfare in May of 2022. However, a few months into the marital union, reports surfaced of Poonam enduring physical abuse at the hands of her in-laws, including her husband and brother-in-law. Yadav attested that Poonam had confided in him about the ordeal on multiple occasions, ultimately relocating to her parental abode two months prior. Yadav further disclosed that his daughter’s in-laws had extended an invitation for reconciliation a month prior to the tragic incident.
Commenting on the unfolding events, CO Harimohan Singh, who arrived at the scene, assured that the matter is under thorough scrutiny. He confirmed the registration of a case based on the complaint lodged, signaling the initiation of legal proceedings.
