Inaugurating the Sudarshan Setu in Gujarat’s Okha mainland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the commencement of the country’s lengthiest cable-stayed bridge, extending over 2.32 km, linking Okha and Beyt Dwarka.
As part of his two-day sojourn in Gujarat to unveil an array of projects, PM Modi commenced the day by offering prayers at the Beyt Dwarka Temple. Following this spiritual interlude, he officially unveiled the Sudarshan Bridge, previously known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ now rechristened as ‘Sudarshan Setu.’
Nestled approximately 30 kilometers from Dwarka town, the island of Beyt Dwarka, adjacent to the Okha port, hosts the revered Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna. The link between the Beyt Dwarka island and the Okha mainland is now facilitated by the Sudarshan Setu, the longest cable-stayed bridge in India.
Distinguished by its 2.5 km expanse, the bridge boasts a unique design, adorned with a pathway featuring depictions of Lord Krishna and excerpts from the Bhagavad Gita on both sides. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it stands as India’s lengthiest cable-stayed bridge. Solar panels affixed to the upper sections of the walkway contribute to the generation of one megawatt of electricity.
In addition to the inauguration of Sudarshan Setu, the PM is scheduled to inaugurate the first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot later today. Virtually launching four recently completed AIIMS facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, alongside the Rajkot AIIMS, underscores the government’s commitment to healthcare infrastructure.
The Central government, at a cost of ₹6,300 crore, has erected five super-speciality hospitals, including the one in Rajkot. As the day unfolds, PM Modi is anticipated to partake in an extensive roadshow in the city, further amplifying the significance of these monumental developments.
