In the city of Meerut, situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, unleashed a scathing criticism towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. She asserted that the saffron party has excessively politicized the investigative agencies, failing to uphold their promises.
During a gathering here, Mayawati, a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, also directed her criticism towards the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. She made a commitment that, if her party secures victory, western Uttar Pradesh will be granted status as an independent state, with an additional bench of the Allahabad High Court established in Meerut.
“This time, the BJP will not regain power at the center. Despite making an array of commitments to the impoverished, vulnerable, and diligent populace of our nation, not a single pledge has been honored,” she proclaimed.
Mayawati urged the public to resist being ensnared by the political maneuvering and theatrics of the BJP. She further emphasized that her party is contesting the elections based on its merit and capabilities.
“The BSP has dedicated itself to fostering inclusivity among people from all strata of society. Hence, we have put forth a formidable candidate from the Tyagi Samaj this time,” Mayawati added.
She went on to allege that during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party government, members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities faced “harassment and persecution.”
“When the SC-ST Bill was presented, SP MPs vehemently opposed it within the Parliament,” she remarked.
“There has been an alarming surge of violence cloaked under the veil of Hindutva during the BJP’s governance. Even the impoverished from the upper caste are bearing the brunt. Under the BJP’s administration, poverty and inflation have spiraled. Corruption persists. It is imperative to thwart the ascent of the Congress and its coalition parties to power,” the BSP leader further added.
Mayawati asserted that her party is not merely making empty promises, but intends to fulfill them diligently. “The establishment of an Allahabad High Court bench in Meerut is imperative. However, the central government has turned a blind eye to this demand. While there exists a bench in Lucknow, once we assume power, we shall establish a bench in Meerut. The development of western Uttar Pradesh necessitates its status as a distinct state. During our tenure in power in Uttar Pradesh, we had proposed this to the central government. When our government takes the helm at the center, western Uttar Pradesh will indeed become a separate state,” she concluded.
Uttar Pradesh, with its 80 Lok Sabha seats, will witness polling for eight seats in the forthcoming second phase scheduled for Friday, April 26.
