In the heart of Dehradun, Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Union Road Transport and Highways, proclaimed on Tuesday an ambitious investment plan of Rs 2 lakh crore dedicated to enhancing Uttarakhand’s road infrastructure. He envisioned a transformation, likening the upcoming roads to the sophisticated networks found in the United States, promising this evolution to be realized by the culmination of 2024. The declaration unfolded during his discourse at the inauguration ceremony of national highway projects, collectively valued at over Rs 2,000 crore, in the town of Tanakpur.
Gadkari articulated, “At present, a sum of Rs 1.40 crore is channelled into Uttarakhand’s road infrastructure, and an additional infusion of Rs 60 crore is imminent, culminating in a comprehensive expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore.” Emphatically in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he revealed, “By the terminus of 2024, the national highways in Uttarakhand will mirror global benchmarks, akin to those sprawling across the United States.”
Highlighting the transformative journey, Gadkari highlighted that the expanse of national highways in Uttarakhand, which measured 2,517 km in 2014, has now burgeoned to an extensive 3,608 km. In parallel, Chief Minister Dhami expressed gratitude for the long-awaited Tanakpur projects, attributing their realization to Gadkari’s proactive involvement.
Dhami lauded, “His unwavering commitment to Uttarakhand’s development is commendable. It seems he anticipates our needs, as assistance materializes even before our requests.” The forthcoming projects are anticipated to significantly fortify connectivity in the Manaskhand region.
