Agra (Uttar Pradesh): A distressing incident has emerged from the Agra district. A man reportedly expelled his wife from their home for his girlfriend. Upon the wife’s return from her maternal home to her in-laws’ residence, the husband presented a bizarre demand, as per sources.
Allegedly, the husband insisted that she undergo ‘Halala’ with his brother. When the wife refused this condition, the husband proceeded to her parents’ home to seek a divorce, sources disclosed.
Following the victim’s complaint, the Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated legal action against six individuals, including her husband.
This incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of Barber Mandi police station. The woman, a resident of Barber’s Market, was married to a man from New Khaspura within the Shahganj police station area on October 19, 2020.
As per the victim’s statement, upon returning to her in-laws’ home, she discovered her husband’s extramarital affair.
Subhash Chandra, the Inspector in charge of Barber Mandi police station, explained that when the wife objected, her husband resorted to physical abuse. “Even when she sought help from his parents, they sided with him,” Chandra stated. The victim gave birth to a daughter in October 2022, after which the husband’s abuse intensified. Faced with relentless harassment, she eventually left the marital home and returned to her parents.
“On her subsequent return to her in-laws’ house, her husband imposed the condition of performing Halala with his brother, to which she refused. This led to her husband divorcing her,” Chandra added.
Chandra emphasized that the police are actively investigating the case.
