Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati asserted on Sunday that it would pose a formidable challenge for the BJP to reclaim governance due to the discordance between their rhetoric and deeds.
Commencing her campaign in Saharanpur for western Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati reproached the BJP for misleading the populace and catering to elite interests.
“The BJP and its affiliates have maintained control over the Centre and most state governments for several years. Their policies and methods, characterized by casteism, capitalism, narrow-mindedness, and vindictiveness, as well as the stark contrast between their words and actions, suggest a difficult road back to power at the Centre, contingent upon free and impartial elections.”
Mayawati indicated that the electorate would no longer be swayed by the pre-election “hyperbole” from political parties and criticized the BJP for exploiting investigative bodies for political gain.
Mayawati mentioned her party is entering the Lok Sabha elections independently, eschewing alliances, and distributing candidacy slots across all societal strata.
As per the electoral schedule, eight parliamentary constituencies—Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina (SC), Moradabad, Rampur, and Pilibhit in UP—will vote in the initial phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19.
Vote tallying is set for June 4. Earlier in the day, Mayawati condemned major parties for paying “superficial” homage to Dr. BR Ambedkar while disregarding his adherents.
In her declaration, Mayawati stated, “For the sake of narrow electoral gains, the false reverence shown to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar while overlooking his followers epitomizes the saying ‘mooh mein ram, bagal mein chhuri’. This is a long-standing practice that persists, necessitating vigilance against this deception.”
Reflecting on the Congress, she noted that their ‘gharibi hatao’ slogan from the 80s remained merely a catchphrase due to their lack of genuine intent. “Currently, under the BJP, the situation persists, with rampant inflation, poverty, unemployment, and regression exacerbating citizens’ struggles,” she remarked.
In a post on X, Mayawati paid homage to Ambedkar on his birthday, referring to him as “a beacon for millions of impoverished, marginalized, and overlooked individuals in the nation.”
“Baba Saheb’s mission is unfinished, and the BSP aims to complete it. This is not merely a phrase but a staunch commitment and purpose with which the party was established, having governed the state four times. This objective shall guide us in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections,” she expressed in another post.
