Gonda (Uttar Pradesh): A formal complaint has been lodged against the sitting BJP MP of Kaiserganj and former head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, at the Khargupur police station on Saturday. The accusation concerns his breach of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the district’s prohibitory orders.
Singh’s actions, which involved traveling through regions in the Katra assembly constituency with a caravan of approximately 25 to 30 vehicles, occurred without necessary permissions. Additionally, his conduct defied Section 144 under CrPC, a regulation enforced within the district due to the impending Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, on April 10, the Colonelganj SDM had issued a notice to Singh demanding an explanation on the matter.
Of note, Singh faces charges of violating electoral regulations despite the BJP not yet having disclosed its candidate for the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat.
Deputy District Election Officer and SDM Chandrashekhar noted that earlier, the ARO in the Colonelganj assembly constituency had issued a warning to Singh for defying the MCC and prohibitory orders per Section 144. Dr. Nazmul Haq Islam, in charge of the Flying Squad Team in the Katra assembly area, lodged a formal grievance at Khargupur police station on Saturday.
According to the complaint, Singh journeyed through various villages such as Mallapur Bazar, Gopal Bagh, Bholajot, Gokarna Shivala, Bhatpi, Bhavaniyapur, Deoria Kala, and Pipra Bhodhar within the Katra assembly constituency on April 12. His procession included about 25 to 30 vehicles, traversing Susgaon, Asidha, Lahdeva, Rajajot, Anantapur Chaura Bhari, and Navgaon. Singh engaged in a ‘jansampark’ initiative with the local electorate, seemingly without securing official consent beforehand.
In the past, similar MCC violations have been reported against Gonda’s SP candidate Shreya Verma and Gonda MP, BJP’s nominee Kirtivardhan Singh alias Raja Bhaiya for conducting unauthorized gatherings.
