In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the police took swift action on Saturday night, apprehending two individuals allegedly involved in an attempt to convert 80 Hindus to Christianity, as reported by a senior official on Sunday.

“During our intervention, we intercepted two buses transporting 80 Hindus intended for conversion. These buses were en route to Nawabganj area of Unnao, with two individuals now under arrest. The lure for these people included promises of employment, monetary rewards, and housing. A case has been registered under pertinent sections of the IPC, and efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects,” stated Assistant Commissioner of Police (Colonelganj) Mahesh Kumar.

“Nawabganj police station officials received a tip-off around 8 pm on Saturday, alerting us to the forced movement of individuals from two buses towards an undisclosed location in Unnao. Subsequently, we initiated late-night inspections of outgoing buses from the city,” Mahesh Kumar elaborated.

The police halted two buses between 1 and 2 am, initiating inquiries with the passengers. “During questioning, Sanjay Valmiki disclosed that they were being transported for conversion purposes,” added the ACP.

The accused allegedly enticed individuals with promises of Rs 50,000 per month and other amenities, as per the senior police official.

Identified as Deepak Morris and Simon William, the accused are now in police custody.
