In the electoral landscape of Chhattisgarh’s Rajya Sabha race, Devendra Pratap Singh emerges as the chosen candidate by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), representing a formidable legacy as a scion of the former Gond tribal royal lineage. An active participant in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Singh presently holds the position of Zila Panchayat member in Lailunga, within the precincts of the Raigarh district, as elucidated by a party official.

The decision to propel Singh into the political spotlight comes as a strategic move by the BJP on a Sunday, strategically replacing Saroj Pandey, whose tenure in the Upper House of Parliament is drawing to a close. Of the quintet representing Chhattisgarh in the Rajya Sabha, Saroj Pandey’s term stands on the brink of expiration, setting the stage for Devendra Pratap Singh to step into the political arena. Noteworthy members amongst the existing quartet include KTS Tulsi, Phulodevi Netam, Ranjeet Rajan, and Rajiv Shukla, all hailing from the Congress party.

Describing Devendra Pratap Singh’s multifaceted persona, the party functionary underlines his incumbency as the Zila Panchayat member from Lailunga in the Raigarh district. Simultaneously, Singh assumes a role in the Railway Hindi Advisory Committee under the Ministry of Railways, adding a layer of diversity to his political profile.

Akin to his political pursuits, Singh’s lineage unveils a tapestry woven with cultural patronage, as he is the grandson of the late Raja Chakradhar Singh, known for his patronage of classical dance and music. In the realm of accolades, State Finance Minister OP Choudhary extends congratulations to Singh, characterizing him as the monarch of Raigarh, a stalwart figure within the Gond community, embodying simplicity and gentility.

The political chessboard in the 90-member state Assembly reflects the BJP’s dominance with 54 MLAs, juxtaposed against the Congress with 35 members. A solitary representative from the Gondwana Gantantra Party holds sway within the assembly, embodying the intricate balance of political forces in Chhattisgarh.
