Amidst the expanse of Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur became the site of sorrowful occurrences, as twin calamities unfolded, claiming the lives of at least three individuals, including two juveniles, while two others remain unaccounted for in the depths of the Saryu river. These unfortunate events transpired during the waning hours of Tuesday evening, as relayed by an authoritative source.
The incidents transpired within the jurisdiction of the Badhalganj police station, unfurling a narrative of distress. In the initial mishap, a vessel, laden with approximately thirteen passengers, succumbed to the river’s might at Madrahan Ghat. Tragically, a female passenger met her demise, her mortal remains later retrieved by local denizens. Although ten souls were rescued by the quick actions of bystanders, the boatman and another female passenger remain elusive, prompting an intensive search effort.
In a parallel tragedy, occurring within the same administrative precinct, two juvenile souls met their untimely demise whilst indulging in aquatic recreation near Musadohi village. The duo, a male and a female, formed part of an ensemble of eight youngsters frolicking in the river’s embrace. However, the capricious currents of the Saryu river overpowered them, plunging them into its depths. In a valiant attempt to rescue their imperiled companions, the remaining six youths ventured into perilous waters, subsequently succumbing to the same fate. Amidst the cacophony of distress, nearby denizens rallied to the aid of the imperiled, salvaging the six survivors while recovering the lifeless forms of the deceased juveniles.
Law enforcement authorities promptly dispatched the mortal remains of both juveniles for forensic examination, identifying them as Pankaj (12) and Nisha (13). Notably, Nisha had sought refuge at her maternal abode, juxtaposed with the lamentable fate of Pankaj, a scion of the same locale.
The tandem tragedies have cast a pall of despondency over the region, eliciting an outpouring of grief and consternation amongst its inhabitants.
