Amidst the solemnity of ‘Akshaya Tritiya’, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath graced Gorakhpur with his presence, immersing himself in prayers at the revered Gorakhnath Temple. Engaging in the sacred ritual of ‘Rudrabhishek’ at the Shakipeeth, he offered libations of fruit juice and milk.
Simultaneously, Ravi Kishan, the BJP’s nominee for the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency, sought divine blessings at the Gorakhnath Temple, participating fervently in the ‘Rudrabhishek’ ceremony to mark the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Accompanied by his nomination filing, Kishan expressed his elation, anticipating Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s presence during this significant event. Encouraging the citizens of Gorakhpur to rally behind him, he envisioned a resounding victory for the BJP, echoing the aspirations for a resolute mandate of 400 plus seats in the Lok Sabha elections, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency, a mosaic of political dynamics, encompasses five Vidhan Sabha seats, namely Caimpiyarganj, Pipraich, Gorakhpur Urban, Gorakhpur Rural, and Sahajanwa. Ravi Kishan, a prominent figure in the Bhojpuri entertainment industry, seeks re-election from this bastion, firmly entrenched in the patronage of Yogi Adityanath. Noteworthy is the historical significance of this constituency, once represented by the incumbent Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister until 2017.
In the electoral showdown of 2019, Ravi Kishan clinched victory over his adversary, SP candidate Rambhual Nishad, with an impressive margin exceeding 3 lakh votes. In the upcoming contest, amidst the labyrinth of political contenders, Kishan stands as the torchbearer for the BJP, while Kajal Nishad represents the Congress faction, and Javed Simnanai leads the BSP charge. The electoral landscape, marred by speculations of grand alliances, witnessed a decisive triumph for the BJP and its ally Apna Dal(S), defying the arithmetic projections of the SP-BSP ‘mahagatbandhan’, securing 64 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
With the ballot day set for the seventh phase on June 1, the electorate of Gorakhpur prepares to cast their votes, charting the course for the political trajectory of the region.
