Amidst endeavors to foster the proliferation of tigers within the westerly confines of Rajaji Tiger Reserve, a female tiger from Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand was relocated to the Motichur expanse of the reserve situated in Haridwar this past Saturday. Noteworthy figures such as Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal, Rajaji Tiger Reserve’s director, Saket Badola, and various officials graced the event with their presence.
The Ministry of Forests has embarked on this conservation initiative with the intent of reinstating ecological equilibrium. Approximately three years antecedently, a lone tiger and a pair of tigresses were transplanted from Corbett National Park to Rajaji Tiger Reserve. All three felines, once liberated within the Motichur enclave, have fared well. Presently, a sedated tigress hailing from Corbett was emancipated within the precincts of the Motichur tract.
In his remarks during the proceedings, Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal underscored the persistent exertions aimed at augmenting the tiger populace within Rajaji Tiger Reserve. Augmenting the tiger population not only serves to rectify ecological equipoise but also promises to augment the influx of sightseers, thereby bolstering the reserve’s revenue streams, asserted Uniyal.
“Spearheaded by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), the green signal was accorded for the relocation of five tigers from Corbett to the Motichur expanse approximately three years ago. Thus far, a quartet of tigers has been successfully translocated during the inaugural phase,” divulged Rajaji Tiger Reserve’s director, Saket Badola.
The tigress emancipated today will be subject to satellite surveillance. Upon her successful acclimatization to her new environs, preparations to usher in the fifth tiger will be set in motion, he appended.
