In the bustling precinct of Greater Noida, two adept healthcare professionals, en route to their workplace, diverted their course to respond to a critical situation. They extended their expertise to aid a distressed 33-year-old woman in delivering her child at a hectic road intersection.
The incident unfolded on a Tuesday at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida when Prashant Sharma, employed in a private enterprise, sought assistance for his wife, Roshni Sharma, who was in the throes of labor. Observing his plea for help, nurses Jyoti and Renu Devi, affiliated with the nearby Sharda Hospital, promptly attended to the exigency. With their intervention, the woman successfully gave birth to a baby girl amidst the activity at Pari Chowk.
Nurse Devi, en route from Kasna for her duty, recounted the scene as she alighted from her transport at Pari Chowk. A woman lay on the ground, in distress, while her spouse implored passersby for aid. “Upon reaching the scene, the woman was experiencing labor pains. I summoned my colleague nurse Jyoti, who was also en route for duty and arrived swiftly. Announcing our affiliation with Sharda Hospital, we draped the woman with her shawl, aided by another bystander. Subsequently, both of us facilitated a normal delivery,” explained Renu.
“Post-delivery, we enveloped the newborn in warm attire, secured an auto, and commenced the journey to the hospital. The woman in the auto began experiencing discomfort due to shock, but we roused her and admitted her promptly,” she added. Dr. Ruchi Srivastava, Senior Consultant in the Gynecology Department at Sharda Hospital, detailed that the nurses contacted the hospital following the delivery.
“Upon their arrival with the woman and child, we initiated immediate medical intervention. The infant weighs approximately 2.50 kg. This marks the woman’s second childbirth, and both mother and child are in good health,” she affirmed. “The woman had been receiving treatment at a Kasna hospital, where she anticipated a cesarean delivery. Afterward, she returned home to Luksar. When she reached Pari Chowk in the morning, labor pains intensified, and she collapsed on the road. We express gratitude that they were brought to the hospital in a timely manner,” Dr. Srivastava acknowledged.
Sharda Hospital’s spokesperson, Ajit Kumar, conveyed that both the woman and the child are currently undergoing treatment. Their medical expenses are covered by the hospital, and discharge is anticipated soon. “The well-being of both the baby and mother is stable. This serves as a commendable moment for all involved, and we can glean lessons from such exemplary individuals. PK Gupta, Chancellor of Sharda University, has extended a certificate and a reward of Rs 5,100 to both nurses as a token of appreciation,” Kumar concluded.
