In Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly is gearing up to establish an interpretation mechanism, ensuring that attendees can comprehend its proceedings in their preferred language. Additionally, a youth parliament initiative will be introduced to educate the younger generation about the legislative process.

Addressing the media at Tilak Hall in the Vidhan Bhawan, Speaker Satish Mahana revealed these plans as he marked his two-year tenure in office. Mahana emphasized that spectators in the gallery would soon have access to multilingual audio feeds of the assembly’s deliberations, currently conducted exclusively in Hindi. He underscored the significance of the youth parliament in fostering faith in the democratic framework among the younger populace.

Furthermore, Mahana disclosed plans for implementing a digital communication system to disseminate information regarding former chief ministers and speakers of the state assembly. Renovation works are also on the agenda, with plans to revamp the Vidhan Bhawan Hall and establish a state-of-the-art meeting facility for various committee sessions.

Reflecting on his tenure, Mahana highlighted endeavors aimed at reshaping perceptions of the legislative assembly. He detailed region-specific consultations with lawmakers and proposed similar sessions involving ministers and legislators in smaller groups. Additionally, he outlined plans for engaging legislators with professionals from diverse fields such as medicine, engineering, academia, and business.

Notably, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s designation to deliver orientation sessions at other state and union territory assemblies has been announced. A standardized framework for conducting such programs is currently in development. Furthermore, Mahana has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of recommendations put forth by the presiding officers’ conference.
