In a riveting turn of events, two individuals suspected of being associated with Christian proselytizing, apprehended by law enforcement on allegations of Hindu conversion, found their freedom after a throng besieged the police precinct in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as per reports.
This incident purportedly transpired on March 30th, Saturday.
Reports suggest that on the aforementioned night, Nawabganj police station received intel regarding the transportation of 80 individuals, comprising both genders, from various localities within the city, in two coaches destined for a church in Unnao, purportedly for conversion to Christianity.
Upon receiving this intelligence, authorities promptly erected a checkpoint at Ganga Barrage, within the jurisdiction of Nawabganj police station. At approximately 1 am on Sunday, police intercepted two coaches ferrying 80 Hindus and 20 adherents of Christianity during routine inspections. According to law enforcement, a youth named Sanjay Valmiki, traveling in one of the coaches, informed the police of Simon William and Deepak Morris’s attempts to entice him with promises of lucrative remuneration, employment, housing, and other incentives, with the aim of inducing him into converting to Christianity.
Prompted by Sanjay Valmiki’s complaint, law enforcement registered a case and apprehended both suspects. Krishna Tiwari, the district convenor of Bajrang Dal, alleged that a mob exceeding 200 individuals besieged the police station later that night, causing disturbances.
Tiwari further claimed that, succumbing to pressure, law enforcement released the suspects from custody. He expressed intent to lodge a complaint with the Police Commissioner regarding the incident.
Tiwari also noted that attempts to reach Sanjay Valmiki, the complainant residing in Armapur, on Monday proved futile. His attempts to obtain information from Valmiki’s spouse yielded unsatisfactory results, Tiwari remarked.
ACP Colonelganj RS Gautam stated that, in response to Sanjay Valmiki’s complaint, charges were filed under Section 41 against Simon William, a resident of Kalyanpur, and Deepak Morris, hailing from Vishnupur Kona. “Both suspects were released subsequent to notices issued by the police station. The matter is presently under thorough investigation, and appropriate legal measures will be undertaken based on the findings,” Gautam asserted.
